WJA Launches Campaign for Women Representation in Media and News

The Women Journalists Association (WJA) of Pakistan launched a social media campaign in November 2023 to demand more women representation in media content and newsrooms.

The campaign was launched in connection with the 16 Days of Action against Gender Based Violence and the annual Human Rights Day on 10 December as these days also highlight the discrimination faced by women in various sectors of society, including in media representations and the news industry.

The social media campaign consisted of 10 messages that were shared through the WJA Facebook page, Twitter account and Instagram handle with the hashtags #HamariWJA and #Media4Women. The campaign posters were well-received and re-shared by members of WJA, including senior journalists and anchorpersons.

WJA actively works to support the rights and concerns of women journalists, content creators and media workers across Pakistan to ensure they get equal opportunities and dignified work in the news media. It believes that more women representation in media content and in newsrooms will improve the quality and diversity of Pakistani journalism as well as drive more audiences to the news media thereby contributing to the financial health of the media organisations.
