WJA to Launch Digital Safety Training Series for Women Journalists

The Women Journalists Association (WJA) of Pakistan is about to launch a series of digital safety training workshops for women journalists.

The training series will be offered with the support of civil society organisation, Freedom Network.

The training workshops will be conducted in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Around 40 women journalists and content creators are expected to benefit from the training.

WJA co-founder and convener Fauzia Kalsoom Rana said this is a great opportunity for women journalists to improve their understanding and awareness of digital threats and equip themselves with digital safety skills.

WJA co-founder and advisor Myra Imran said women journalists are regularly threatened with digital attacks due to their journalism work. These attacks, including harassment, abuse, and hacking attempts, have a chilling effect on the work and digital expression of women, she said. The training workshops will help the participants learn how to protect themselves online, she said.
